A new scientific monograph entitled “Geographical, Hydrological and Ecological Monitoring (Varzob River Basin, Tajikistan) / Географо-гидрологический и экологический мониторинг (бассейн реки Варзоб, Таджикистан)” has been published by Majid Shonazarovich Gulayozov, Co-Director of the Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (Dushanbe), Candidate of Geographical Sciences, in co-authorship with Ali Rakhmatzhanovich Fazylov, Head of the Laboratory of Hydraulic Structures at the Institute of Water Problems, Hydropower and Ecology of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor.

  This monograph is devoted to the issues of rational use of water resources, the impact of climate change on the water balance of the Varzob River Basin, the characteristics of runoff formation, the role of glaciers and snow cover in ensuring water resources, as well as the assessment of the ecological condition of the region; practical recommendations for environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources are also presented.

During the research, the authors used modern scientific methods, including Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies, field observation data, hydrometeorological analyses, modeling methods, and Earth remote sensing technologies, which significantly increase the scientific and practical value of the work.

The monograph is recommended as an important scientific and practical source for scientists, teachers, master’s students, doctoral students, university students, and specialists in the fields of ecology, hydrology, geography, climate change, water resources management, and environmental protection.
