From 11 to 14 September 2025, researchers of the Research Centre for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia took part in research in the area of Lake Sarez and its upper reaches (Rushan and Murghab districts of GBAO) in a joint expedition with representatives of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Main Department of Geology under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the Aga Khan Habitat Agency.  The main goal of the expedition was to study the current state of the high-altitude lakes of the Pamirs. In the course of the work, aerial photography of lakes located in the upper reaches of Lake Sarez was carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles of the Center. At the same time, in the process of field work, geological research, bathymetric work and assessment of the state of lake dams were carried out.
It should be noted that this is not the first expedition of the Center to Lake Sarez, and research work in this region will continue in the future.
