From August 29 to September 2, 2025, the Center's employees conducted a study and monitoring of the state of glaciers and glacial lakes in the Surkhob River basin. In the course of field research, aerial photography of the tongue part of the Said Nafisi glacier, where several small glacial lakes are located, was carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles. Glacial lakes in mountainous areas pose a serious danger.
  Intensive melting of ice on hot summer days is the main cause of mudflows. In the past, such mudflows led to the destruction of sections of the Dushanbe-Lakhsh highway and a change in the course of the Surkhob River.
  In addition, the Center's staff also used UAVs to study glaciers in the upper reaches of the Ob Shurak (Shuraki-Kapali) river basin. The data obtained will be further processed.
