The Research Center for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia (Dushanbe) announces the publication of a scientific monograph by the Center’s scientists entitled “Glaciological Risks (Glaciers and Glacial Lakes of Tajikistan) / Гляциологические риски (Ледники и ледниковые озера Таджикистана)”.
The authors of the scientific monograph are scientists from Tajikistan and China — Mustafo Safarov, Ali Fazylov, Shichang Kang, Majid Gulayozov, Junli Li, Nazrialo Sheralizoda, and Hofiz Navruzshoev.

This monograph is devoted to the study of the current state of glaciers, glacial lakes, and related natural hazards in the Republic of Tajikistan. Within the framework of the research, issues of climate change, glacier retreat, the formation and expansion of glacial lakes, the risk of their outburst, debris flows, geodynamic processes, and the impacts of such phenomena were scientifically studied and analyzed.
During the research, the authors used modern scientific technologies and methods, including Earth Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), field observations, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These methods made it possible to assess with high accuracy the actual condition of glaciers and glacial lakes in Tajikistan, as well as the level of potential risks associated with them.
This scientific work is recommended as an important scientific and practical source for scientists, researchers, teachers, master’s students, doctoral students, university students, and specialists in the fields of glaciology, hydrology, ecology, physical geography, and natural disaster risk management.
The publication of this monograph represents a significant contribution to the development of glaciological, ecological, and climatological research in Tajikistan and is of important significance for strengthening the country’s scientific and practical capacity in the protection of glaciers, sustainable use of water resources, and reduction of natural disaster risks.
The monograph “Glaciological Risks (Glaciers and Glacial Lakes of Tajikistan)” is dedicated to the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028” and the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation – 2025.
